Plaid Shirt Dress

May 31, 2016
How was your weekend?  Did you have any big Memorial day festivities?  The weather was gorgeous so all you lake lovers should have some pretty good color, and maybe even a few hangovers for some.  Not me!!!   I made a batch of my homemade sangria and shared it with the neighbors.... apparently it was a big hit (not surprised) as they have already made plans for next weekend to make another batch!   It is good!
Starting the week on a Tuesday is always a bit odd.  Not that a 4 day work week is a bad thing, it just throws everything off.  From casual to straight up comfy, I styled this dress two ways with a few minor changes.  Actually you could leave the sandals on with both looks and it would be fine. I love a shirt dress.  A shirt dress is comfortable and still a stylish look. I threw on a pair of sandals for a dressier look while still being comfortably casual.  For a switch up I paired my converse and added my jean jacket for an added element of layering.  While the first look with sandals is perfect for daytime or evening, the transition to converse and jean jacket is a perfect pairing for an evening event that starts out warmer and as the sun sets the jacket is ready for cooler evenings.  We have several festivals and art fairs this time of year and the evenings can still get pretty cool.

Seersucker Blazer

May 26, 2016
You know when you have your mind set on one thing and then something throws you for a loop?  That is how I ended up with this gorgeous seersucker blazer.  I had my mind set on a gingham blazer. I even tried one on in the store.  The problem was where the gingham blazer hit me on the hips.  I'm short, so jacket and top lengths are important to the overall appearance, If it hits me too high it will give the illusion of short and wide.  Not a good look.  I saw this blazer and thought it was nice, and then upon another glance realized it had a nice polka dot lining. It appeared longer so I decided to give it a try.  I loved it!  I compared into the gingham and it was a full 1.5 inches longer.  It was pretty much a no brainer at this point.  I am glad I was open to change and not so dead set on a gingham blazer that I let it get in my way of this lightweight seersucker.

Style Tip:  Think outside of the box when it comes to blazers. They aren't just 9-5 anymore.  Pair it with denim, shorts, and even toss one on over a tank dress.

Wednesday Wants

May 25, 2016
Art
Today's collection of Wednesday wants has a bit of a theme.  It's beach time!  I'm not really the coffee book kinda gal but this Gray Malin book on beaches is definitely a book I would set out.  Gorgeous views of beaches from around the world is exactly something I would enjoy.  I shared with you here my new off the shoulder top, and when I spotted this one with eyelet around the bottom.... wellI I pretty much loved it too.  What would summer be without pink sandals?   For me these new pink Tory Burch Millers are the best!  I may just have a pair being shipped to me too!!!  Straw totes have been pretty popular for a few years now so adding a new one for this summer is pretty much a standard.
What is currently on your list of wants?

Gingham Tunic

May 24, 2016
Tunics are trending again this season and with good reason.  they are comfy, versatile, and well ...just plain cute!  The one downfall I sometimes find with tunics is they are sometimes too roomy.  Yes... too roomy.  It's always something right?  As I have mentioned in the past  when you allow ample room for your chest in button shirts that extra allowance also tends to be all over.  Finding a shirt with buttons can be challenging.  Lucky for me this particular tunic has a slight gathering at the back yolk allowing me just enough extra material to take a seam down the back.  There is probably a good two inches I can do away with in the back of this tunic, but I needed the extra allowance for the button front!  Sounds like an ordeal right?  Having the ability to sew is on my side again!  Oh, and seriously you should go grab one of these gingham tunics.... it is on sale too!
Style Tip:  For a more tailored look with your tunic opt for a skinny belt to cinch in your waist.

Layering for Spring

May 19, 2016
When you are dealing with finicky weather you need to dress accordingly.  Adding a new twist to layering with my chambray shirt, I wore this fun beachfront themed pullover.  With the pops of pink it was a perfect pairing with my white denim.  This layering allows several options.  I can remove the sweater and wear denim on denim, or, remove the chambray shirt and leave the colorful sweater with my white denim.

Style Tip:  When layering with a button down shirt be sure there is enough shirt tail to extend past the top layer to complete the layering look.

Some of my favorite wardrobe pieces have been pink.  These shoes and this bag has more than paid for themselves.  Not that either of these would be considered an investment item, they are great accessories to own.  Do you have a favorite accessory?  I think sunglasses are investment pieces for sure.

Wednesday Wants

May 18, 2016

This weeks edition of Wednesday Wants is trends that are on point this season.  From off the shoulders to scallop swim wear.... you can't go wrong with any of these.   I love this roundup.  If you are in to fun footwear you can go with a great wedge or a fun colorful tennis shoe.  Off the shoulders, flowy boho tops, or scallops.... what ever you fancy these are sure to keep you on trend!  Contouring is all abuzz and if you are any good at it then I applaud you.  If a soft all in one palette is more your speed, then this one is for you.  Easy and all in one compact it would travel well in your bag for quick touchups too.
Happy Wednesday!

Perfect White Shirt

May 17, 2016

Happy Tuesday. How was your weekend?  The weather was gorgeous again here.    One of my dear friends had her baby yesterday.  She literally left the office around 11am thinking she didn't feel well and with a bit of cramps, and at 4:30 she sent a text that she had him!  We are so excited and I'm going to hold that sweet baby boy today.   I have a pretty regular list of "reality shows" I like to watch.  There's the Housewives of OC, and BH, and let's not forget Vanderpump Rules.  I  wouldn't really say I have a favorite, and by no means do I plan my evenings around a show.  These days you can miss about three weeks and catch up on all of them in one siting the next time it's on.

The real reason I have shared some of my guilty TV pleasures is because of this necklace. I first saw it on one of my shows.  I did a google search on the show and necklace she was wearing and not only found it, but she had received so much media attention for the necklace that one of the shops that carry her line offered a discount!  Designed Susan Shaw creates beautiful pieces of jewelry and I was so excited to find her line.  I linked to the store I purchased mine from.  I don't now if the discount is still available but if it is here ya go  JENN15.  There are so many pretty pieces of Susan Shaw's collection I want to add in addition to my necklace.  My white shirt is the perfect neutral to showcase not only my new necklace, but allows the vibrant colors in my paisley skirt to stand out.  A little pattern mixing with my leopard Clare V. sandrine, and it's a great spring outfit.

Wrapping up the Week

May 13, 2016

Happy Friday lovelies!  It was a busy-ish week and I am looking forward to some catch up this weekend.   Tuesday The Blog Guild held a happy hour meet up hosted by the darling Golden and Pine shop.   We nibbled on these gorgeous treats by Heirloom Bakery.  Seriously the cutest store!

I have my eye on one of these.  I mean really.... it's pink ombre and a lucky horseshoe

I spend Wednesday playing catch up in the evening with editing and writing.

My Peony bush in my backyard is finally opening.  Is this not the most gorgeous ever?  I am going to cut a few and bring them inside to enjoy.

I am itching for a new pair of sandals and I think these may be the ones.

Have a great weekend!

Off the shoulder Top

May 12, 2016
Off-the-shoulder tops are subtly sexy not to mention weekend to date-night approved. Pair them with distressed denim and a strappy wedge for on-trend, sweet feminine perfection.  I have shared my search for a great off the shoulder top and finally landed on this fun stripe number.  It is already sold out and that just sucks, but I linked to my #2 favorite that I might just have to pick up as well.  Being busty, it was important to find a top that was long enough to flow softly down the front of me rather than hang off the front of me.  does that make sense?

Style tip:  Switch up your outfit from wedges to flats for a more casual look.  For a day date wear your flats, and an evening date opt for wedges.  Use the strap on your cross body for daytime, and slip it under your arm in the evening for a pretty clutch.

Wednesday Wants

May 11, 2016
Wednesday wants are a little late today... but it's still Wednesday.  I attended an event last night and when I got home I just didn't have the energy to pull my list together!  Do you ever just get home and want to do nothing?  Yeah, that was me last night.  So this week's list has a few summer fun items and well as a staple item or two!  Loving tassels anyway I can get them, on the hem of this fun top or a pair of fun earrings.  Love them!  I love my slip silk pillowcase and swear by it.  Add a little Kiehl's midnight recovery and you are in for the best beauty sleep you can get.  I am loving the saddle tan this season and this bag is super cute.  I have been a fan of Ashley Pittman jewelry for some time and hope to add a few pieces of hers to my collection of bracelets. Honestly I would love any piece of Ashley Pittman jewelry.  Taking the best of both worlds this sandal is a comfy flat and has an ankle strap.  Soft pink lips please with this Dior lip glow, and finally this off the shoulder gingham top/tunic is adorable.  This image doesn't do it justice and it's on sale too!  Enjoy!

7 ways to style White Denim

May 06, 2016
Gap
Happy Friday!  The weather is gorgeous here in the Midwest and it looks like spring has finally arrived.  Can you believe we are already into May?  Crazy.  My middle son turns 24 tomorrow and Sunday is Mother's Day so it will be busy to say the least for me.   I have shared so many outfits with my white denim this spring and we aren't even close to Memorial Day. I 'm pretty sure the rule of white after Memorial Day is a bit out of date! I rounded up my favorite outfits where I have styled my white jeans, both distressed and non distressed to show you how versatile a pair can be.  If you don't have a pair.... you should get a pair now!   I linked to everything that was still available or shared options in all of these outfits below.

Wedges are super popular again this season and I tend to wear them a lot more now.  They are comfortable and can dress any outfit up, or down, depending on what you pair them with.  In the first two outfits I wore heels with my white denim.  A mid heel, but definitely dresses up my outfit.  Don't be afraid to mix denims together.  I paired my jean jacket with two of these outfits and loved the contrast!  Another fun option is to throw on a pair of converse.   From bags, to clutches to totes anything goes with white denim!  Have fun with how you style your denim and let me know if you have a favorite way you style your white denim.

Plaids and Florals

May 05, 2016
Life's too short to live by the rules.  Redefine your style with a few basics items.  I know I have shared these white distress denim jeans in several post and I can tell you they are truly a great item to have.  I own two pair of white, one distressed and one without any distressing.  You know I enjoy pattern mixing so when a top already has mixed the patterns for me it's a win for me! This Soft Surroundings tunic is comfy, lightweight and trimmed with a smaller plaid.  It is the perfect weight to transition from spring into summer.  The front is a linen cotton blend and the back is a silky smooth finish.  I paired this outfit with my blush Cuyana tote and my favorite Nickel and Suede earrings.  Seriously, these earrings weigh nothing and are the most comfortable accessory.
Style Tip:  Half tuck in the front of your tunic to give your figure shape.  Take the front tail of your shirt and tuck it into the waist only about one inch of the shirt.  Blouse it and let it hang loosely on your hips.  This defines your waist better without showing all your curves.
