Black on Black

December 02, 2016

Happy Friday and more importantly... Happy December!  Can you believe we are in the last month of 2016?  This year just flew by.  I have been so busy working on a secret project that I will be sharing with you after the first of the year!  It's exciting so be on the look out for it!  Most of us all have at one time or another relied on an all black outfit.  Let's admit it, it's easy, everything goes with black, and it's slimming.  Am I right?  I wanted to take an all black outfit but add a touch of pattern to elevate my look.  I still love the qualities mentioned above with the all black, but I feel less drab with a pattern play in place!  This blouse is a drape front and hits a bit shorter than I like so I layered it with a solid black tank.  The plaid sweater vest is super versatile and will go with so much.  These leggings have a mottled leather look to them and that definitely dresses them up!

Style tip:  When pairing patterns be sure to mix a large scale and a small scale to balance the look. Adding a heel elongates your look and gives you a slimmer and streamline appearance.

Black plaid dress

October 26, 2016

I have been busy.  I know everyone says that at some point, but I really have been busy.   I just returned from another 4 days in Florida and emptying my bags only to repack them for a trip to Chicago next weekend.  My busiest time at work is coming to a close this week and I cannot wait to have it behind me.  I feel like I have just stopped everything thing to get through this month.  November is looking calm to me!  I left Florida in a sundress and returned to weather that requires a bit more of a fall feel.  I wore this dress before I left for Florida and it is such a perfect fall dress.  I love the pockets on the front and the drawstring waist. One of my favorite local boutiques Tulip on the Country Club Plaza has new shipments of fall dresses and sweaters arriving weekly.  This dress caught my eye last time I was in there and I love how versatile it is going to be this season.   I paired it with my booties but it would be very cute with flats and even tall boots.  You could add a pop of color with a scarf, a cardigan, or even with your jewelry.  Have fun with your otherwise basic black and whites this season.   Thanks for hanging in here with me, I promise regular posting is coming back as well as some great fall outfits!

Weekend Wear

February 22, 2016
We have survived another weekend and this past weekend was actually great.  Who could believe we would have temperatures in the 70's in February?  I will take it and keep it coming!  While it was beautiful weather there as still a cool breeze.  I always share my work and evening outfits, but rarely share my weekend wear... so here it is.  I wore this outfit on Saturday to run errands and as always, the first thing on my weekend outfit list is comfort.  This chambray short is a staple. I wanted to look presentable but yet still be super comfy.  A cute pair of Tory Burch flats and my Dolyn cross body bag completed my outfit.  Everyone was out enjoying the weather and it definitely felt like spring.  Now I just need to trade these jeans in for a pair of shorts and it will really feel like spring!!  How was your weekend?

Monochromatic Flutter Top

November 30, 2015
Now this top would generally be on my list of items to stay away from.  The flutter peplum is not something that is flattering on everyone.  I'm not sure what possessed me to pick it up and try it on but it ended up in the dressing room with me.  As soon as I put it on I felt good in it.  I twirled around in the dressing room mirror to my surprise and thought It was flattering to my surprise.  The details on the neckline and the monochrome pattern is so delicate but sexy.  I chose to wear a solid tank under the top as its a wee bit sheer.  I may look for a cage tank or cage bra if it covers enough to wear under it.  I didn't know what a cage bra was until I started researching them.... sounds a bit risqué. What would you wear under this top?

How to wear a Coatigan

October 15, 2015

I have talked about trends many times on the blog and my feelings about following them.  You always have to stay true to what works for you regardless of trends.  I was skeptical at first sight of the coatigan.  Being short I feared it would just emphasize my lack of height.  When Tulip, a local boutique on the Country Club Plaza  asked me if I would style it I paused to see if it really fit my style.  I thought about it for a few days and agreed to give it a try.  At first I failed miserably.  I paired it with  cuffed jeans and a loose top and booties but realized I had toooo many breaks in the outfit for the eye to follow.  It only made me look as wide as I am tall!  Not flattering.   It needed to stand out.  Be the focal point of my outfit.  Streamlining my look with minimal breaks I paired it with a graphic tee drawing on the burgundy stripe and continuing the eye to the bottom of the sweater with black leggings and my favorite booties.  The coatigan trend receives high marks from me.  I loved the way it all came together and was able to stay warm in the cooler morning hours and as the day wore on peel of layers starting with my scarf  and hat, then switching out the booties, and finally the sweater.

Pop over to the Tulip facebook page and see how two other local bloggers styled their coatigan and be sure to vote for my look!

Transitioning Tunics for Fall

September 16, 2015
One of my favorite looks so far with this tunic is this combination.   I'm pretty sure by now you can see how many ways I have styled this tunic and I can only hope you have picked one of the colors up for yourself! The light blue is on sale too!   You can see the other ways I styled my tunic here, and  here.  Taking an ordinary stripe and shopping within my own closet brought this entire look together.  Refer back to this post how I share pattern mixing and this post on the balance from the color wheel If you need a reminder of what and how to mix your patterns and colors.  Are you thinking about what is in your closet that can transition into fall?

Black and White

September 10, 2015
Sometimes you just have to keep it black and white.  I was serious when I mentioned I am going to transition these white jeans right into the fall.  I have a few more outfit ideas so look for them soon.  I want to talk about my new flats.  Cute right?  Ummm yeah, these are fabulous!  With pointed toes and embellished calf hair leopard they are going to be on heavy rotation.  MGemi is hitting it out of the park with all the new styles they release and killing me with so many I want.  Not a fan of the leopard?  No problem.... they offer them in three other colors.  But be warned, they sell out fast so I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on a pair.

With fall comes a busy event schedule.  I have back to back events for the next two weeks and I am a little overwhelmed with so much going on.  There is Sip, Shop, & Walk tonight, then the Chic Events the entire weekend.  Monday evening I thought might be fun to go to the Blog Talk KC to discuss how to make the most visual platform work for you, not to mention supporting a few local blogger gals!  Then the next week is Kansas City Fashion week and that is 4+ days of non stop fashion.  Whew.... I think that is about it.  And then I want to go home to visit the parental who I haven't seen in a while.  I think I am going to be a blur for a bit!

White Jeans and Wellies

September 08, 2015
How was your long Holiday weekend?  We have officially turned the page to the "other" side of labor day; but that doesn't mean you have to stop wearing white!  I plan on transitioning my white jeans well into fall. This tunic in on heavy rotation too and you can see how I wore it last here.   We have had an enormous amount of rain this summer and yesterday and last night was no exception. I think we are even expected to have rain for two more days!   I have to admit rain isn't near as daunting when you can trek around in your Hunters!  I was so glad when I received my first pair as a gift last year. It makes rain puddles trendy!  Now I think I need this pair as well!  Happy Tuesday friends!  I hope you are dry where ever you are!

Transitioning a Sleeveless Dress

September 02, 2015
You may remember this dress from this post here.  You may also remember it is sleeveless.  An easy way to transition this dress for fall is to wear a tunic over it. I love the high side slits to this tunic giving the dress more movement and allowing you to see more of the color.  Both of these items were a great find at Old Navy and the tunic is available in three colors.  I am really getting excited for fall and my wish list for items to purchase is growing.  Are you as excited as I am for fall?  I wish the weather would at least stay mild for 6 more weeks allowing plenty of time to enjoy fall before the dreaded bundling up for winter begins!  So for now lets just stay gorgeous outside m'kay mother nature?

Casual Afternoon

September 01, 2015
In this crazy busy world we live in slowing down can sometimes feel impossible.  I know I am guilty of having a list a mile long and I try to cram it all into my weekend.  When Sunday evening rolls around I am wondering where the time went.  I am going to try really hard in these next few months to slow things down a bit and balance out the busyness in my life with a little relax time.  Do you ever feel like you need a day to recover from your weekend?  I know I do.  So with a three day weekend coming up I will jump right to some down time.... at least one of the days!  Hey, I didn't say it would be a smooth transition for me!  On another note.... do you think I can transition my hat into fall?

The Big Launch Party

August 18, 2015

I know I have hardly talked about my venture and my co founders, but the day has arrive!  We have been working for over 6 months on this day and can I tell ya? ..... It feels so good!  Formally know as The Kansas City Blogger Meetup, we knew we had outgrown the name.  It was time for a fresh look and a new approach to gathering bloggers together.  The Blog Guild is the brain child of Emily, myself and Erin.  We wanted to define what it was we loved so much about meeting up with other bloggers and share with our fabulous community we have here in KC.  The three key elements for all three of us was to Create a community for bloggers who can Connect with other like minded gals who share a similar passion.  We know that building a relationship with companies is what it takes to make a great Collaboration that is mutually beneficial for both the brand and the blogger.    I would love for you to take a peek and click around, check out our resources page, and if you are local.... well by all means send us your info so we can add you to the membership!   Do you have a bloggers group where you live?  Don't fret if not..... we have you covered as well; shoot us an email and we will set up a meeting to share with you how you can bring The Blog Guild to your city!

Here is just a small peek at the evening.  I am sure I will have plenty more to share soon!

Kendra Scott Jewelry opened a new store locally here and so graciously hosted our launch party.  Can you say jewelry, shopping discount, sips and snacks?  Yup, it was a grand evening.  We had photo props, a braid bar courtesy of Parlor Blowdry Beauty Bar and gave away a bunch of Kendra Scott Jewelry  to a few lucky bloggers in attendance.  I have my eye on these earrings and this necklace!

Thanks for following along and I can't wait to see where I go from here!  I know one thing, It's time to start sharing my fall outfits.  Can you believe it?
