Cutoffs and Chucks

July 06, 2016
We made it half way through the week!  Thank heavens for 4 day work weeks, am I right? How was your holiday celebrations?  I hope your plans didn't get rained out or equally as bad, I hope it wasn't a scorcher.  We had pretty mild with a bit of humidity in the air, but nothing like July generally is! With the temperatures rising it's time for light colors and a great hat for shade.  I love the light feel this outfit brings with it's pale pink and white denim cutoffs. My panama hat has been a life saver more times than you would imagine.  I really don't know what I did before I had one.  I wear mine in the yard, at the pool, and even on the weekends out sometimes.  I again did the side tuck; it just works better for me than a front tuck with my tee.   I wanted to keep the outfit light with jewelry as well so I paired only one leather Rustic Cuff wrap and a simple pair of silver hoop earrings.  The neon tassel necklace was a perfect addition with a pop of color, don't you think?

Red white and Blue

July 04, 2016
Happy 4th of July!  What does everyone have planned for today?  We have a full lineup for the grill, and fresh fruit for a batch of my Wolfgang Puck Sangria!  We may be wading in our Hunters with all this rain, but at least there is not as much concern for firework fires!!  We, I say we, because I think the guys felt that if I tagged along it would make it okay for them to buy a bunch of loud fireworks.  They started the festivities a tad early and set a string of blackcats off in a bucket last night!  Oh my gosh, what a ruckus.  The only thing told them was "don't be the annoying neighbor with a bunch of obnoxiously loud fireworks".  Thank heavens we weren't!  The neighbor at the end of the cul-de-sac took the prize for being obnoxious; and it's not even the 4th yet!

Regardless of the weather and the noise I am ready for the holiday with my patriotic outfit!  I have let my hair grow out and love it but it does tend to be pulled up or back with the heat!   My red bandana kind of gave me a Rosy the Riveter look don't you think?  I am hoping for a full side braid on the beach later this month!!  Keep an eye out for plenty of beach pictures and a few fun collaborations I have scheduled to shoot while in  Florida!  Oh.... and those squinty eyes are why I generally wear my sunnies in pics on bright days!!

How to Mix Patterns

July 01, 2016

Remember earlier this week when I shared my Talbots pink paisley skirt and I wasn't overly pleased with my top selection?  Well this time I did a hem tuck.  I think sometimes it is referred to as a half tuck, but this is clearly not half tucked in!! I like the way this striped tee works with my paisley skirt much better.  Don't you agree?  You know I am always up for some fun pattern mixing and my Clare V leopard bag was the perfect amount of mixing this outfit needed!  Don't be afraid to mix and match items in your wardrobe.  All of these items were already in my closet so there was no need to purchase anything new for a fun summer look.

Style tip:  When pattern mixing be sure to keep your prints in two different scales. If you are still hesitant to mix things up, read my entire post on pattern mixing. Notice how the narrow stripe with the larger paisley works well; a wider stripe would have been too much.  Remember the rule: leopard is a neutral!

Gingham Pants

June 30, 2016
Sharing today another successful shop my closet outfit with you.  These gingham pants are a favorite of mine.  You know I love gingham!!  As I was pulling items for my upcoming trip to Palm Beach I came across this off the shoulder top.  I actually forgot about it.  I have had it a few years and the shoulders can be worn up or down.  I like that it is versatile.  I paired this outfit up with a colorful cardigan.  You an never have enough cardigans for a pop of color or light layering.

This holiday weekend we are expecting thunderstorms off and on.  I feel bad for everyone who may have plans to go to the lake, or attend a big fireworks display.  Hopefully the weather will hold off and only bring mild temperatures!  Fingers crossed!  What plan do you have to celebrate the fourth of July?   Do you celebrate with fireworks, or do you prefer to just watch them?  I was more daring when I was younger and didn't mind setting some off, but now I am pretty content watching a display, or some simple sparklers and snakes for the grandkids!  We get to enjoy  a few spectacular shows from our deck which makes it that much nicer.
