5 Ways to style Converse Shoes

August 15, 2016

I can't believe it has been two weeks since I posted.  In case you didn't know, I went on vacation with my best friend of 26 years.  She lives in Palm Beach and I flew in to visit her.  We took a road trip and drove down to Key west for three days and celebrated my birthday while we were there.  I decided to take a break from social media while I was on vacation; well except for snapchat!  I am so glad I did.  It was great to be present in the moment and really disconnect from my phone and computer.  I was gone for a total of 10 glorious sun filled days of laughter, shopping, more laughter, and every day a pool day!  I am ready to go back to the beach! I have several outfits to share with you, and of course the resort we stayed at while in Key West, so look for those to be posted later this week.

Today I want to share with you a trend that actually have become a staple in just about every gals wardrobe.  The Converse, or if you are old enough to remember them referred to as "Chucks"!  If you don't own a pair .... get out there and grab yourself some!  I am thinking about adding a pair of pink Converse to my closet.  Today I am sharing just how versatile a pair can be and different ways for you to style them.  The possibilities really are pretty endless! I have worn them with everything from white denim, to dresses! Throw them on with a maxi too!

Wednesday Wants

May 25, 2016
Art
Today's collection of Wednesday wants has a bit of a theme.  It's beach time!  I'm not really the coffee book kinda gal but this Gray Malin book on beaches is definitely a book I would set out.  Gorgeous views of beaches from around the world is exactly something I would enjoy.  I shared with you here my new off the shoulder top, and when I spotted this one with eyelet around the bottom.... wellI I pretty much loved it too.  What would summer be without pink sandals?   For me these new pink Tory Burch Millers are the best!  I may just have a pair being shipped to me too!!!  Straw totes have been pretty popular for a few years now so adding a new one for this summer is pretty much a standard.
What is currently on your list of wants?

#Pinktober

Pink is more than a pretty color this month.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and so many companies have gotten on board to donate a portion of proceeds from specially curated collections. Most of these items are only available for the month of October so if something catches your fancy I wouldn't hesitate.  It's a win win.  Something for you and a donation for cancer research. Besides.... it is pink after all and who doesn't love pink?   I rounded up a collection of things that I fancy including that fabulous hot Pink Celine necklace you have already seen me wearing and most likely will share it again in tomorrows outfit! Love it!!!  You also know if you have been around here a while how much I love The Ropes Maine bracelets.  Shana has created an exclusively available and  limited edition bracelet with the cutest rose gold lobster charm with a pink tourmaline betweens its claws with 100% of the proceeds going to research.  I am one of the lucky ones that has cancer survivors in my family.

KC Fashion Week Recap

October 01, 2015
Art
This past weekend, myself along with bloggers and fashion aficionados packed into the Kansas City Union Station to see the upcoming Spring/Summer 2016 collections from local and regional designers. Raising awareness for melanoma; KCFW partnered with Fair & Fashionable and requested the attendees wear black on Thursday to show support for the awareness of melanoma. Over 200,000  people are diagnosed with skin cancer every year according to the Mayo Clinic.  The idea behind the movement is to inspire people to change their belief; simply put, that natural skin tone is in style and healthier than suntanned.

With each designer taking the runway, I found myself saying this was my favorite look.... until the next designer took the runway!  So here are a few of my top picks from the event.  To learn more about Kansas City Fashion Week, visit their website!

Gorgeous designs for sure.  What is your favorite look from the event?  I can't wait for spring to attend the next show!

It's all in the Props

I want to start this post by explaining a piece of a blogger's life.  When taking outfits pics you want a setting that is cohesive to what you are wearing.  At least I do!  For example:  A pair of stilettos in grass or a field really doesn't give a genuine impression to you really are wearing that outfit. Every time I have stepped off the street or curb onto the grass in even a smaller heel I stop and think about "does this even look natural?"   So finding a location to shoot can some times be an adventure.  That is what brings me to these pictures.  While running errands and shooting pictures one afternoon Erin and myself stumbled upon this studio.  Ummm cool studio I might add!  It was a prop girls dream come true! I instantly knew the pinball machine needed to be my prop.  The lighting flooding in and the shadows playing across the floor was the best.
Speaking of floors..... these slippers!!  Jem Skull Slippers to be exact.   You may have remembered I have posted about them here.  Loving them from the minute I saw them I knew I wanted a pair.  Now I have a limit to what I will spend on shoes and these exceeded such limit.  I have patiently and oh so quietly followed Mara and Mine just hoping and waiting for the chance to own a pair.  The heavens opened up and a fall sale occurred. I wasted no time making a pair mine!  I have received a few comments from friends as to what the exact draw to these shoes would be and I really don't have one answer.  I have always followed the beat to my own drum and don't necessarily follow trends to the tee.  Different, unique, and well.... just me!  After all that's what you are here to see isn't it?  Style from my perspective.

Chunky Sweater

September 22, 2015
Art
What better way to have a comfy chunky sweater pop and show the details of the cable then to share it against a cool graffiti wall! You could almost say I have a bird on my shoulder... ha!  One of the great features to this sweater is the back is a lighter weave solid light gray knit.  What makes this so great is the sweater is chunky and warm but not too heavy to wear.  Something to consider when choosing bulkier items such as this sweater is that a  V neck is more flattering for busty gals than a round neck or turtleneck.  If you are busty like me wearing a more fitted turtleneck and a long necklace to draw the eye down rather than out is the way to go! If your sweater is longer like mine below be sure to add a little height to your outfit to give a more streamline appearance.

Blanket scarf season is right around the corner and I am sharing how I style this same sweater with a scarf later this week.  Stay tune!

How to make Burlap Leaves

How_To_Make_Burlap_Leaves

I decided to end the week with a quick fall DIY.  I shared these leaves in my Metallic Pumpkins giveaway post earlier this week.... If you haven't entered yet no worries there is still time; click here and enter to win a trio of pumpkins of your choice!  These leaves were super easy and can be completed in one afternoon.

Supplies

Burlap - I picked mine up at Target with the gold flecks
Mod Podge - Watered down glue would work too
Shapes of leaves
Scissors
Paint
Fine tip sharpie

I gathered leaves from the park, but you could also google leaf shapes and find a few samples.

Next I traced the shapes on my burlap as close as possible to minimize waste.  In order to keep the edges from fraying I lightly coated the edge of the shapes with mod podge.

Once dry, I cut out all my leaves.

Now for the interesting step.  I wanted to add color but didn't want to cover my gold flecks.  I mixed several colors together or reds, oranges, yellows, and browns to color the tips of the leaves.  Then I went back over the edges of the leaves with my finger and tipped them in gold for a little shimmer.  Once they were dry and I was pleased with the mottled colors I lined the leaves with veins.

Shop Local

May 13, 2015

I spent my Saturday afternoon this past weekend at the beautiful Trapp and Company store here in Kansas City.  Celebrating their Spring into Summer event, the store was full of brightly colored clothing, décor, and of course flowers. I want to thank all of you that stopped by to shop and visit.  It was a fun day.  Being the day before Mother's day the floral department was operating at maximum.  I could have spent more time back there watching the artist arrange gorgeous arrangements. If you weren't able to visit.... no worries. I have plenty of visuals for you today!  This is only a snap shot of the store and you must see it in person.  Lets get right to it shall we?

This is the same sweater tunic I styled here but in white.

This floral arrangement was my favorite as you can imagine with the pretty pinks.

Don't forget dear old dad.... Father's day is coming up and there is a great section for the fellas!

This vase!

Just me hanging out in the flower cooler.

This is only a portion of the wall of Trapp candles and scents.  I found a new favorite Black Pepper.  But I still love the orange vanilla.
