I'm finally ready to share my office space with you.  I know I have mentioned it several times and I have even shared little sneak peeks before.... but today you get the whole shebang!!!! Welcome to my office, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!  I linked to all my product sources at the end of the post but If I missed something please let me know and I will try to recall the source for you. I posted here how we painted the striped wall.  I still love it as much as I did the day we did it to!

I recently completed the gallery wall next to my desk.  I had been gathering things that I loved for some time to hang on the wall and finally earlier this summer I felt happy with how it was coming together.  I hung them with the help of my bestie over the 4th weekend.  I love how I have just the right amount of space still on the wall in the event I come across a little something to add!  This is where I spend a lot of time working when I am at home.  We just love the space and the feel in the room when we are both working.  We placed our desk back to back to open up the room and it allows us to work facing each other rather than backed up, or side by side.  You can clearly see the invisible line down the room form her side... to his side....Ha!  There is a TV mounted on the wall in the corner up behind his desk so when we are taking a break from working at our desk we can catch a little something to watch.  The only thing that is left for this room to be complete is to find the right window covering.  I am leaning towards a pair of clean sheer white panels.  What do you think? Color on the window or white? There is a large picture window to the right of this image below as well as the one you can see.

I have collected paperweights for many years now and have them displayed in this antique curio cabinet that belonged to my grandmother.  My mom always finds uniquely detailed paperweights in Europe when she travels to add to my collection.  There is an art to blowing glass and not every paperweight is a collectable.

DIY Inspiration board

April 11, 2012
DIY
I have been working on a section of the family room I recently painted and revealed here that will become my office space.  My office was in the lower level of the house. Ok, Basement!  In the midwest we have basements. Not in Oklahoma where I grew up, but In Kansas for sure!  The lighting was bad and I didn't feel that it had good mojo!  The BF suggested after we paint the family room we convert it to my office.  That was a great idea except that I loved having two seperate living spaces.  Compromise = shared space.  I will take half the room for my office and the other half will seat two oversized chairs and a table instead of a sofa.  We have set out on the search for the seating.  So far Pottery Barn slipcover chairs are in the lead, but with a delivery date of late June!! Ugh...... I purchased my new desk from Crate and Barrel and it is being delivered next week along with a few new accessories for the space I am excited to share a little later.

So here is a DIY design board that took less than half a day to complete.  The cork board was another Hobby Lobby (40%) off item.  The fabric matches a roman shade I had made for the patio door, and I used spray adhesive.  I searched what seems the city over for silver thumb tacks to no avail.  I found these decorative tacks at Michaels on sale and like them better.  Originally I was going to outline the whole cork board, but my thumb and OCD to straight lines got the best of me.  I like the showcase in the corners!!! I ombre' painted my initial (because you can never have your initial on enough items)  and will be fastening it to the board as well.   To complete the board I sprayed the cork board with the adhesive, layed the fabric on and smoothed it down.  Once dry I flipped the board over and glued the back edges down.  I cut the fabric approximately 2 inches larger to wrap over the edges.  Then I measured and marked my corners and pushed in the pins.  The letter was also a Michael's purchase and I picked pink (of course) and painted the letter darker as I went down

I am anxious to see it in the new space.  It is slowly coming together. The fabric almost perfectly matched the wall color too!

Designs By Maria

September 07, 2012
Don't let anyone ever dull your sparkle, Beyoutiful, Awesome, just some of the fabulous inspirational prints Designs by Maria offers.  You definitely want to favorite her Etsy shop if you haven't already.

Designs by Maria was kind enough to send me a poster of my choice.  I love quotes  and sayings that really have a positive effect and have always tried to teach my boys to look at the glass half full!  I hung mine on my office wall next to my desk.  I matted and framed mine in a sleek silver frame, and couldn't be happier with how it turned out.   The print itself is a great inspiration to see every day.   There are several different prints to choose from, but this was my favorite!  Here is a sneak peek at my office too!

I love how the soft pink compliments my other pink accessories in my office.   You know I love pink!  I am excited to offer you a chance to win a print of your choice to add to your decor. The print is unframed.   Just follow the instructions in the rafflecopter form below.  Good luck!

This is my Year

January 06, 2014
Happy new year!  I have been taking a little break from blogging.  Honestly? Because it was pretty darn difficult getting to my office due to the fact there were 11 people in my home for the holidays. Yup, 11.

Three grandsons, three sons, two DIL's and a friend.    My home was full of laughter, games, big meals, wine, tons of toys, a few battles, (mostly between the two littlest grandsons)  but we survived, and I am slowly getting back to a routine.  I haven't worked a full week of work in almost a month, so this week may seem like eternity to me!!!

2013 was by far a terribly trying year for me.  I wanted it to end.  End, go away, and never to repeat itself.  There was the cancer diagnosis for my Mother, the ever trying antics of my youngest, (who by the way, will be 18 in two months, he reminds me daily).  There was worrying for my 21 year old and his family struggling to get on their feet and learn a few life lessons along the way, and they lived with me for the last three months!  ugh! I don't want to dwell on the year, but learn lessons from it, and move positively forward.

2014 will be my year.  I know it!  How? Because I have a plan.  My year to travel more, be more present, and getting back to being more spontaneous.  I will put more faith into what god puts in front of me, and know there is a plan he has for me too.  My blog anniversary was January 1st.  2 years! 2 wonderful and so rewarding years.  I have learned so much on this journey, and I am ever so grateful for everyone that has been on this journey with me.  I have made wonderful friendships with fabulous ladies around the country that I could never have imagined with this blog. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  You really do mean a lot to me, and I love not only what I share with you, but what you share with me.  I never imagined I would share my outfits with you, but with a little help from a few local blogger friends I did, and you all loved it.  It's not hard to look fabulous in a $500 dress with $900 shoes and a $2000+ handbag, but thats not reality.  At least not my reality!!!  It does however take some stylish thinking, and a few mixing and matching to pull together an outfit to fit your work environment and age. Thats what I hope to bring you more of this year.

That has been one of the challenges I have come across recently, dressing age appropriate but still very trendy and stylish. I'm not willing to shop Chico's,  and Forever 21  has never been on my list. That is my real life.

I hope you know that this blog is a very edited, a tiny sliver of my life.  Not all my friends even know I have a blog.

I hope you know that most blogs are heavily edited.

I hope you know that a portion of the hard, painful moments in my life involve people that I love. I don't share those things here because I want to protect them, not because my life doesn't have those moments.

I think its very misleading when bloggers post perfect pictures of their apartments, or life, and expect others to relate to them.  Real life means real pictures.  I am not the best at dressing my coffee table or prepping a photo shoot, I want to be realistic to my life.  I don't shop for flowers every week, rather monthly I like a fresh bouquet for the house.  And it would be totally a style shoot to dress my coffee table.  I live with all boys remember?

Sometimes I don't get dressed until 2pm on the weekends.

I hope you know that blogging about your life takes more than it appears to take. All those good, wonderful moments that are fun to capture and share, well those take time and forethought and editing.  I rarely instagram in the moment. Truth? Because I would  need to get readers out just to see what I was typing and sending.

I hope you know that I am a single working mother.  I am happily single in a committed relationship.

I hope you know that every relationship takes its fair share of work and has its fair share of arguments. I am in a passionate relationship.  Something I thought might never happen after a failed marriage, and a string of crazy, stalking, hilariously fun boyfriends, with a man I'm crazy about, who loves me more than I ever thought one person could. And we totally fight. About important things and not so important stuff too.  I once was told by a wise friend that when you loose the will to fight in a relationship, the relationship isn't worth fighting for.  We fight, and I 'm OK with it!

I hope you know that everyone who blogs is normal. And it's not all pretty pictures and roses, and what little consequence clothes actually are in the meaning of life.

I hope you don't compare real life to an edited one.

I hope you know how much I appreciate you.

I want to celebrate with you and have collaborated with some of my favorite people and companies to bring you some amazing giveaways in the coming months!  I have some changes to the blog coming soon too, a few design changes, and a new series.  So get excited, I am!!

Lets do this 2014!!

Ikat Maxi

June 19, 2014
I shared several month back I wanted to clean my closet... I mean really clean it out.  I walk in and sometimes sit down on a stool in my closet and just look around.  Decisions need to be made and sometimes they don't come easy.  So I sit... and I collaborate within my closet to see what gets to stay and what gets tossed.  My sister's always love when I clean out my closet, it's a score for them for sure! I have actually cleaned a lot out.  I found that it allows me to update and expand rather than hang on to what you have a great memory attached to.  I had alot of things in my closet that I would never... ever... see myself wearing again.  But in that off chance, in a weird turn of events that I would somehow need endless amounts of halter tops, or strappy tanks, or even heels that could help me reach the sky I would be prepared!! I am proud of the process and it is cathartic to move forward discarding, updating and adding new pieces.

I found this ikat maxi at Marshalls and knew it was coming home with me. It is an easy addition to my closet.  I can dress it up or down.  Then one thing I do differently when shopping now that I am older is I do a quick cost per use wear, and can I utilize it for work.  It doesn't make sense to purchase something at a higher price point that I can not wear to the office.  I do occasionally splurge on a few items I just have to have, but overall it must be office friendly. I wore this outfit with a white cardigan to the office (remember the no denim rule) but quickly switched it up a fashion notch with my new jean jacket.   Maybe I should share my blog with the execs and let them see how denim really can be your friend at the office!  haha! What new items have you aded lately to your closet?

My Readers

August 01, 2014
When Readers.com contacted me asking If I would be interested in working with them I didn't hesitate at all.  I wear readers daily.  As a matter a fact I have them strategically placed through out my house too.  I have worm glasses or contacts since I was in middle school and didn't have a need for readers until I hit my 40's.  Somewhere around 42 I was stretching things further and further back to read.  Now, it is the first thing I reach for at my desk to start my day.  Readers.com has some of the cutest styles and I coordinate my glasses to compliment my outfits!  They have become a daily staple for me to work at a computer all day so they better be cute!

You can always find a pair  on my head if I am not wearing them too!  Check out these darling readers.com glasses with the floral and the  pink leopard temples!

So what about all the times I am not at the office?  When I get home in the evening to work at my desk at home you can bet there are plenty of readers around.

I always have several pair hanging on my glassybaby as a cute way to keep them handy on my desk.

And for those evening I work from my laptop... yup you got it, more readers on my night stand.  This crystal jar was my grandmothers and I use it to hold my readers, hand cream and a little lip balm neatly on my night stand. I am all about keeping my readers.com glasses handy and displayed cute.

So when I say I have glasses strategically placed all around my home... I mean it!  See?  There is even a pair by the kitchen sink.  You wouldn't believe the number of times I have tried to read some label printed so tiny an ant would have difficulty!  Readers.com is definitely where I will be going to add more readers when I need them!

*Readers.com sent me glasses for this post to use. All opinions are mine and I am never without a pair of readers... or two!  I would never recommend something I didn't trust or believe in and I love my readers for sure!

Master Bedroom Reveal

June 01, 2015

This room has truly been a labor of love.  I've put more thought into this room than any other room in my home.  Usually I can pull together the décor and finish a room up in a relatively short amount of time. . .not this time.  I had a vision for how I wanted my bedroom to look.  This design journey began in my head over a year ago with only a few minor idea changes; different fabric for the pillows here, all white bedding rather than the taupe linen duvet cover there.  All in all, for me, the most important detail remained the same - creating a calming and peaceful place to retreat and relax.

I have to always be considerate of the fact that this is not just my room.  To my surprise, Joe was completely onboard with the touches of pink.  He would not have been happy with a pink explosion!  We literally stripped the room, from the bed and wall color to the carpeting.  The only original pieces left in the room are our night stands.  However, I do want to replace them with mirrored chests to match my other pieces and as soon as I find them in the right size I will.

lattice-rug-pink-pouf

I can't tell you how much I love this wall color.  It truly lives up to its name, Versatile Gray from Sherwin Williams.  It is the same paint we used in my office which you can see the full design post of here.   I used the below colors as my palette for the entire room.  Soft neutral colors with a slight pop of color in the brighter pink pompom throw, the pillows and the abstract art.

During the building process, I had outlets installed for both cable and electric higher up on the wall so that they could be hidden by the television.  Unfortunately, I didn't have a way to hide the DVD or cable box so I made a sleeve out of matching linen fabric to cover the unsightly cords that otherwise stand out.

I tried out two other rugs in my bedroom before finally finding this one at Rugs USA.  This is not my first rug from Rugs USA, so I was confident I would receive a rug with great quality and color accuracy.  I was right.  Not only does the color coordinate with my room, I love how it feels beneath my feet.

This is my favorite corner to sit with my laptop, to read a book, or catch up on my reality TV. I searched and searched for a lamp perfect for this space and finally found one with a rectangle base and shade from Lamps Plus. I was looking for a lamp that would not protrude too far into the room so this rectangular shape was important to me.  A bonus with my lamp is it has a floor on/off switch!

Have you tried sleeping on a silk pillow case yet? If not, you should!  I have to admit what they say is soooo true.  It really does make a difference with your hair and skin.   There are several brands out there so be sure to research their silk content.  Slip Silk Pillowcases sent me this pink (of course) pillowcase and I am sold.  I will never go back to a cotton pillowcase.
