Gray.... not Blue
I sew. My mother Sews. My grandmother sews, and most of my sisters sew. I recently have come across a few of my friends that don't know the first thing about sewing. I am at a lose for those girls. Every time I make something I wonder how anyone couldn't sew. I am lucky to have that skill. I made new pillows for my great room last year. Then in spring we had the room re painted. (I know a little backwards) I knew gray was the color I wanted for the walls. I didn't know that choosing the right gray would be so hard. I picked up several samples and brought them home. I even painted a section of the wall a few sample strips of colors. Then as I was choosing a color of stain for another area of the house I found (so I thought) the color. It was the color. I brought it home, held the 1x1 sample of paint on the wall and made the decision. No sample strips needed! (right)
The painter arrived two days later to start the project. I was excited to say the least. I would leave for work with the old color and come home to the new! Well It didn't work that way. Day 1, move furniture, prep walls, let dry. No painting. Day 2, sand walls, prep missed areas, let dry, no painting. Day 3. I am ready to see paint this day! I get a text around three from the BF stating "painting is coming along well, hope you like blue"!! BLUE? WHAT? NO NO NO..... it was suppose to be gray. I rushed home and walked in to a freshly painted living room, entry and hallway. Blue..... confederate blue, wedgwood blue. Not Gray! I tried to like it. I put on a brave face, and smiled politely. Promise I did. I even tried putting the new decorations in the room to somehow convince myself it was gray. The different times of the day played with the color. Sometimes it was soft blue, sometimes it was a pale blue gray, but at night and first thing in the morning it was Wedgwood blue. I was close to tears. The BF knew living with me and the wrong color was never going to last. He suggested I go and try and find what will make me happy. It was 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and Home Depot would be closing in three hours. I ran up to the store with my improved vision of color in mind and my samples of fabric. I returned with 5 sample jars (the best $20 ever spent) and proceeded to paint over the freshly painted walls. 5 samples, 5 strips of color. There it was. The one. I painted an entire small wall the color and knew this was it.
When the painter returned Monday morning to "finish up the project" I met him at the door with the new paint and an apology. I was asking him to re tape and re paint the entire room. Not the hall or entry. He was fine with it. (I am sure he runs into wrong choices all the time, or crazy women) This time I left for work only to return to find the room painted the color I had envisioned. The color is Martha Stewart Concrete Gray. I left the entry the confederate blue as a nice break. I have accented the room with pops of yellow. I still am not happy with the mantle. What do you think of the room? What would you add to it? Anything?

You can see to the right of the front door the change in the color where I left the blue. I think it blends nicely with the gray. (I didn't have the heart to ask him to redo it too. Some things you live with as a reminder of the importance of due dillegence)

You really make it seem really easy with your presentation but I in finding this topic to be really one thing that I think I would by no means understand. It kind of feels too complicated and very vast for me. I am having a look ahead to your subsequent post, I will attempt to get the cling of it.
