The Peanut

June 30, 2014
Happy Monday!  Can you believe it is the last day of June??  Where in the world is this year going!!  The good news is this is a four day work week and that means celebrating Independence day Friday!   What are your plans for the holiday weekend? Maybe a cookout, or a picnic... of better yet order up some good food and let someone else take care of it all for you!!!

My middle son is a wings fan, and when I say wings fan... I mean there is no wing the boy won't try to find the best!  When he found out The Peanut, local here in Kansas City was sending us some wings to sample he was right on board with this!!!  HA!  The Peanut is Kansas City’s oldest bar and grill.  Serving the Kansas City community with the most delicious array of bar and grill food in the Metro area, The Peanut is a genuine neighborhood destination with four locations.

Now I am not a wing connoisseur, however rumor has it... and my sons fully agrees The Peanut is THE wing standard in Kansas City. These are no ordinary size wings,  finishing a half-order, let alone a full order, can be a challenge because you’re eating both the wing and drumstick. They’re spicy and peppery and the right amount of messy.  Just take a look at that huge wing, and the messy fingers!!

Here is the best news too.... Order your Peanut wings by tomorrow morning and you will receive your wings by Friday!  There is your main course item already delivered straight to your door.  Want even more great news?  Enter the discount code 1266 and receive 20% off your order!  So what are you waiting for.... get your independence day party started and with a sweet discount!  Happy Monday peeps!

Disclaimer: I received a half order of wings to review and can honestly say my son loved every last bite of them.  He honestly shared his opinion for me to post about the finger lickin good wings. I would never post anything I could not or would not believe in and I trust his taste buds completely !

Repeat Pattern

June 26, 2014
Do you have a color that makes you feel good?  Mine is pink.  I gravitate to it... and leopard, but that's a neutral right?  I picked up this scarf at Nordstrom a week or so ago.  It actually was on the mannequin and I disrobed her!  Sorry...not sorry!  My scarf collection is growing rather large and I think I need another, (third) scarf hanger.  Do you find yourself drawn to scarves as well?  They are so easy to add to an otherwise plain outfit.  These pants are from Ann Taylor last year and you know I like to get plenty of use out of fun pants so this scarf was a perfect accessory.  Layer up the pink and let her go!

Palazzo Pants

June 20, 2014
SO I did it!!!  I purchased a pair of palazzo pants.  Fun... loud... and a throw back for sure!  After looking at how so many gals styled their pants, I opted for wedges with mine.  Being short I felt that adding height was the best fashion approach rather than adding width!  The legs are plenty wide!  What are you thoughts on palazzo pants.... wedges or flats?  I would love to hear your style ideas.
You have to be pretty confident to rock a pair of loud pants like these.  Good thing I'm not afraid of being loud!!!! I tried to balance the pants with a splash of neon pink in my scarf and I think it turned out great!  What do you think?  Too much pink?  Too much color?  I may style these pants with a solid black tee and my pink tory sandals and share that look with you to get a vote!

Ikat Maxi

June 19, 2014
I shared several month back I wanted to clean my closet... I mean really clean it out.  I walk in and sometimes sit down on a stool in my closet and just look around.  Decisions need to be made and sometimes they don't come easy.  So I sit... and I collaborate within my closet to see what gets to stay and what gets tossed.  My sister's always love when I clean out my closet, it's a score for them for sure! I have actually cleaned a lot out.  I found that it allows me to update and expand rather than hang on to what you have a great memory attached to.  I had alot of things in my closet that I would never... ever... see myself wearing again.  But in that off chance, in a weird turn of events that I would somehow need endless amounts of halter tops, or strappy tanks, or even heels that could help me reach the sky I would be prepared!! I am proud of the process and it is cathartic to move forward discarding, updating and adding new pieces.

I found this ikat maxi at Marshalls and knew it was coming home with me. It is an easy addition to my closet.  I can dress it up or down.  Then one thing I do differently when shopping now that I am older is I do a quick cost per use wear, and can I utilize it for work.  It doesn't make sense to purchase something at a higher price point that I can not wear to the office.  I do occasionally splurge on a few items I just have to have, but overall it must be office friendly. I wore this outfit with a white cardigan to the office (remember the no denim rule) but quickly switched it up a fashion notch with my new jean jacket.   Maybe I should share my blog with the execs and let them see how denim really can be your friend at the office!  haha! What new items have you aded lately to your closet?

Four Favorites

June 18, 2014

straw-tote-baublebar-jewelry

Happy Wednesday!  Todays four favorites are what I am loving right now.  Longer necklaces have been a favorite for a while and Bauble Bar has some "need to have" styles that I would love to purchase.  This set is beautiful and comes in several colors too.   I was out shopping last night for cute summer dresses.  Something easy and flowy, but with a little umph!  This shift dress is exactly what I was looking for.  Love the snake print too!   Ok… so this straw bag is too cute.  And those pom poms? Yes please!  Last on the list of favorites this week are these gold sandals.  Gold sandals are everywhere this season and what's not to love with a little ankle strap!?

Linking up here too.

An Evening with Bloggers

June 17, 2014
Who ever invented the weekend should have added one more day!  Just saying.... if we had always started with a three day weekend it would be the norm now instead of a luxury.   Happy Tuesday!

My oldest grandson turned 6 on Friday and his little birthday party was Saturday.  I drove to the party on the most blustery day across the Flint hills of Kansas ever.  They live 2 hours west of KC and man was it a struggle to stay on the road with the wind fighting me. But on to the good stuff.

Last Thursday a few local blogger friends got together to mingle, nibble, and share laughs.  I say a few, there were 40+ RSVP's  I'm pretty sure and a few last minute gals dropped by!  It was at the lovely Amigoni Winery in the west bottoms of DT KC.  I had never been there but what a lovely space for parties, or events.  The light flowing thru the windows makes for great photo ops.

KC Blogger Meetup

As I mentioned last week, I am on the board of the KC Blogger Meet up as sponsorship chair so I was working at the event as well. When we arrived there were a few last minute details to be finished up and set up of all the lovely giveaways we had for the girls.

May-Designs- Parlor-KC-Tulip

The gals were excited for the giveaways.  There were Maddy Nash wrist lets, A blowout from Parlor KC, a gift card for a custom May Designs, Wine from of course.... Amigoni's, a Tulip gift card, and A  gift card from Tiny Prints sure to take care of all their printing needs for a very long time!!

florals-events-Emmy-Ray

Emmy Ray donated flowers for the event and we gave those away too!  If you saw my instagram last week you saw the gorgeous arrangement that went home with me.

Thank-You-Cards

Tiny Prints also sent  thank you cards for all the bloggers to grab a set as a gift too!  Thank you Tiny Prints!

Lets not forget the food... Urban Table supplied the most fabulous spread of light bites and treats.  Just look at that cookie tray will ya? It really was a great event and so fun to see everyone after a long winter.  There are many more fun events coming up so If you are interested in sponsoring with the greatest bunch of KC bloggers, or blog locally and want to join, shoot me an email and lets work together!

I am celebrating a special grandson's 6th birthday this weekend.

Have a happy weekend.  Do you have any fun plans?

A still mind

June 12, 2014

I'd like to say I have been taking time to stop and smell the roses.... or perhaps on vacation, but truth be told I have been trudging thru the waters of life trying my best to keep my head above water.  The radio silence on my blog is deafening to me at times and I hate it. I wish I could pour it all out, and someone out there in Internet land can fix all that is wrong in my world.... but If wishes came true I could fix it myself... right?

Thank you for still being here.  I promise I will be back to regularly posting next week!  I have some colorful outfits to share.  So, again I am back with a post and a bright moment in the week.  It's Thursday and my friend is coming back to work today after a 3 month maternity leave.  We have missed her dearly and cannot wait to share with her all the funnies she missed, catch her up on the inside jokes, like the day Jen walked in and declared she was going vegan,  and hear all her sweet baby stories.  But at the same time my heart aches for her leaving her bundle of joy for the first time and venturing back to work.  It's difficult to transition the first few weeks and I know her mind will wonder.  I remember when my little guys were babies... then toddlers.  Next thing you know they are graduating preschool and off to kindergarten!  You blink and they are a freshman... then BAM its graduation day.  Welcome to the real world son! I don't know if I would want to go back, but I do wish I could give them shields to protect them from the world!  And maybe a cape! Ha!

I have been busy and still all at the same time. The guest bath is currently being redecorated.  It wasn't a plan... rather a small leak undetected for gosh knows how long, then a plumber to fix said leak... then curling floor... hence we then ripped up and the wallpaper stripped from the walls as well.  Might as well re do it all right?  Not what I wanted to be doing right now, but I am at least taking a few pics and will share the new bath when we complete it.  Here is what it looked like this weekend. yuck right?  It was a black rice cloth wallpaper that I have since stripped the remaining off and cut part of the floor up to be replaced.

Tonight is the KC Blogger Meet up quarterly meeting and it has been way too long since I have seen some of my local blogger friends.  I am a board member and the current sponsorship chair.  We have some great giveaways and fun things planned I know the girls are going to love!  If you are interested in sponsoring our next workshop or meet up drop me an email and I will get you all the sponsorship information to you.

Hooray for Thursday!

Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats

June 05, 2014
Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats

One of my boys all time favorite snacks are the Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats.  I can make a batch and it will be gone in a day they are that good.   Today I want to share this pure goodness with you and hope they become a favorite at your home as well.  Enjoy!

Rice Krispie treats

What you will need:

  • 1 C light Karo syrup
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 C peanut butter
  • 6 -8 C rice cereal
  • 4-6 oz semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 4 -6 oz butterscotch chips
  • 9 x 13 pan
  • Butter or margarine (to grease pan only)
Grease your pan with butter or margarine and set aside until needed.  Do not use pam as it will not release as well.

Place sugar and syrup in a pan large enough to hold the rice cereal when it's time.

Stir constantly until is reaches a rolling edge boil.  Do not over boil or the sugar will harden once the treats are made and you will never… ever… get your teeth thru them.  Yes I did it, but it only took once to learn that lesson.  You just want it to start a consistent boil around the edges of the pan.

Remove from heat and add the peanut butter.  Stir it in well.

Add the rice cereal and stir to coat all the cereal evenly.  Now I have modified the recipe here a bit.  My mom uses 6 cups of cereal and I think the original recipe calls for that amount as well.  I think they are a bit too gooey so I increased my cereal.   Just note that you can experiment with the cereal  amount between 6-8 cups.

Once you have the peanut butter and the cereal mixed well pour it into the greased pan and press it into the pan.  I have found the back of a greased spoon works well or a square of wax paper as the mixture is still very warm to use your clean hands.

Now, melt the chocolate chips and butter scotch chips together in a double boiler.  If you prefer a thicker layer of chocolate increase the quantities to 6 oz each. (Again, I have done both and this is purely a preference)   If you don't have a double boiler you may melt them in the microwave taken careful measures not to burn it.  You will need to microwave for about 25 seconds and stir, then repeat that process until melted smooth.

Pour the chocolate mixture over the top of the pressed PB treats and spread to cover them.

Now with melted chocolate or baking chips they do not set up at room temperature.  I place my dish in the freezer for a flash freeze of the chocolate taking careful notice of the time in the freezer.  NO MORE THAN 10 MINUTES!!!  You may also place the pan in the fridge if you prefer and leave them longer until the chocolate sets.

Cute them with a large sharp knife into squares and enjoy!

What are some of your favorite family treats?
