Heartgram

January 31, 2013
I know my feature is usually on Fridays, but I wanted to share this in time for you to be a part of this event.

The girls at LoveFeast Shop have a very special valentines   this year.  For any Velvet Plush Heart or HeartGramTM purchased on February 1st, LoveFeast Shop will donate 15% of proceeds to the American Heart Association in honor of Go Red For Women.  And to make it even sweeter for you, you have a chance to win a set for yourself.

One of my sisters passed away 7 years ago of heart failure, so this is near and dear to my heart. She was 46.  I miss her every day.  More women die of heart disease than any other form of cancer combined.  Unfortunately, this killer isn't as easy to see.  Heart disease is often hidden and misunderstood.

The LoveFeast™ HeartGram™ is the perfect gift for any Valentine. Each HeartGram™ comes packaged in a kraft paper gift box, with crinkle paper and a vintage inspired postcard. The box is tied with a gorgeous satin ribbon. The postcard can be delivered blank for you to fill out for your Valentine, or you can leave a note for us upon ordering with your message and we will hand write the note for you.

Each HeartGram™ Set or Single comes in the colors of Cherry, Coral, Turquoise, Lagoon or Snow.  Each set contains an approximately 5" and 4" handcrafted Velvet Plush Heart with an artistic, organic stem.  HeartGram™ Singles include a 5" Velvet Plush Heart.

The collectible limited edition 2013 HeartGram™ Set comes with a custom designed postcard by artist Annie Barnett of Be Small Studio in  Turquoise and Lagoon velvet.

To learn more about woman's heart health go to GoRedforWomen.org and please consider buying a heartgram for yourself tomorrow, February 1, or even purchase a set as a gift!   Thank you Love Feast Shop.

If trying to win a set is more your style, then enter to win a pair in the color of your choice.  I love mine and the BF even thought they were darling.   Don't they look sweet next to my heart box?

Please follow the instructions in the rafflecopter form below to enter, and good luck!

Four Favorites Valentines Edition

January 30, 2013
I am linking up today on my very first linkup, and I couldn't be more excited that it is with my blog bestie Ashlyn and Kristin!!

With sweetheart day right around the corner, love is definetely in the air.  I love all things pink, and these are a few favorites for sure.  I have really been wanting a cross body bag for sometime and this Brahmin is the perfect size.  Not too small, or to big, and in pale pink!!

So, I won a GC last year, yes, last year.... but in my defense it was late spring if that counts! Any way, I have to admit, sometimes I hang on to gift cards for a while, and alway second guessing if I used it wisely enough!  Well I finally think I am ready to spend it!  This scarf with lips is so fun, and I would have a blast styling it!

Ok, so I have to be honest, I use to have a rule, I never wore hearts.  Not in any way, shape, or form.  I can't even tell you when I changes that, but hearts are no longer on my do not wear list and I am super glad!

The flats are buttery soft, come in a huge assortment of colors, and oh so comfy! So what's on your list of favorites?  Link up and share what you desire for valentines!

Flutterbys

January 29, 2013
Art
If you have spent any amount of time cruising thru pinterest, then I am sure you have seen this precious keepsake for your baby.  I loved it the first time I saw it and knew it was only a matter of time before I would have to make it.  Last year when I went to EL Paso,  my daughter in law and I made a set for each of us.  I can remember when my boys were little, they would always make some sort of a butterfly in preschool and bring them home.   I had a wall in my house that was adorned with all the coffee filter, construction paper, and pipe cleaner fluterbys. My two younger sons always called them flutterbys instead of butterflys. I still have all the flutterbys in a box too!

So this past weekend, I had to add to my flutterby of my two older grandsons, and make a new one with my youngest grandson.

Take two precious little set of piggies, add paint in the prettiest colors you imagine, carefully apply the feet to the canvas, (key word there carefully) little feet move fast and unpredictable!!  We only painted one foot at a time, washed it off, then painted the second foot.  Once the paint was dry, I drew a squiggly line up the middle with a little head and some antennas.  If you can at all help it, place the little piggie prints a bit lower on your canvas so the antennas are longer!  (Oh, and the little smudge on the lower corner? that would be his big toe that had a mind of its own!)  I decided to leave it!

I love it!  So tell me, have you tried anything off of pinterest? Was a it a success? Do you follow me on pinterest?

Love Language

Foil wrapped chocolates, conversation hearts, or a bouquet of flowers, what is your love language?  I love these prints and would have them all if there was such thing as a sweatheart room!  Maybe you prefer a few sparkles for a gift!!  Who doesn't right?

I am a romantic at heart, and love the feeling these prints have.  My guy and I have been together 7 years this April, and we have always made sure to keep the romance through out the entire year.  It's not just one day a year for us!  No amount of chocolate, or bouquet of flowers can measure the magnitude of our hearts!  I  get a little mooshy sometimes for him, and I love giving and receiving handwritten cards!  The girls and I got together last weekend and started making a few homemade valentines cards, and I can't wait to show you the results!

What about you?  Would you rather he bring you chocolates, or flowers? Or do you hint at the sparkles?

Lulu and Georgia

January 23, 2013
If you have not heard of Lulu and Georgia, you are in for a treat.  It is the most wonderful online shopping experience!  Colorful and unique!  I gathered a few of the items that need to get in my house!  I am in love with these things and any one, or all of them would be a perfect addition to my house.  I just love the colors!  So do yourself a favor and check out Lulu and Georgia right now!  I promise you won't be sorry, and I have to say, I was pleased at how friendly the price point was too!

I am absolutely in love with this rug.  I know the BF would never let me put it in the house because it's too much pink, but a girl can dream! And lets talk about that striped pillow for a minute.....love the pops of color!  The round side table is aptly named the champagne table for all the little bubbles, isn't that cute?  My great aunt use to have a starburst mirror that looked very similar to this one, I only wish I had it but my Mom seems to think its long gone! sad!  This pouf would be a perfect impromptu seat for my family room, and a perfect splash of color.

So see? I can justify just about all of these pieces for the home!  I didn't say it was rational, but only justifiable! hehe!

Movie Weekend

January 21, 2013
Happy Monday friends!  How was your weekend?  I have to admit I wasn't too sure how good it was going to be after seeing a few true colors of a friend come out last week.  It was sad!  But I choose to move on, and had a great weekend!  I didn't plan on seeing three movies. yes three, but they were all good!  Actually two were great, and one was ok!  Friday we saw Zero Dark Thirty!  I wasn't thrilled about it at first, and even had to leave during the torture scene, but it turned out to be very powerful.

Saturday evening we ended up of all things watching This is 40!  Funny? Yes!  Hilarious? No! A few times down right stupid.  Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy stupid humor in movies, (Napolean Dynamite) but there was something about it that seem as if they were pushing too hard.  Like rolling every single 40 joke, mishap, and things that could go wrong or happen at 40, rolled into 90 minutes.  But it was stupid humor! Glad I saw it, but wouldn't highly recommend it.

Ok, so Sunday's Movie was Argo!  Fan..tast...ic!  I loved it!  I think the element that I liked the most was that I could relate to everything.  I remembered the hostage situation when it really happened (aging myself here).  Ben Afleck Did a great job!  I would highly recommend this movie.

Speaking of 40 humor, the grandbaby was over this weekend, they actually come every weekend to stay and I love the quality time with them all, but my back, and calves, and arms are super sore.  All that on the floor, off the floor, and up and down the stairs, bending over picking up a growing boy is making me use muscle groups that are not use to this!  I will chalk it up to pre spring workout for me! I see a beach in my future and that means working out!

How was your weekend?  Seen any good movies lately?

Sarah Briggs

January 18, 2013
You know that moment when you see something and think.... I have to have it?  Well that was how I felt when I first saw Sarah Briggs designs.  Her style and designs speak to me.  Very feminine and yet a touch of edginess to them.  I love a good hoop and my first instinct was to go for her Goldie hoops, and at first that was even the design I chose.  But I immediately changed my mind and I couldn't be happier with my decision!

Sarah graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Psychology.  She experimented in several professions including wedding coordinator, public relations specialist, advertising account executive, and even a buyer at Neiman Marcus.  By the time she was 24, she found her true calling!  Sarah loves jewelry!

Sarah had studied art in places like Paris, Stockholm, and Petersburg, so she drew her inspirations from architecture.  Every time she sits down to design, she brings to the table something new and adventurous because of this! She is addicted to pilates, cooking, her dog Munchie, her six sisters, and her loving husband.  She recently became a mother for the first time, and was wearing her favorite hoops all during her pre labor, labor, and delivery.  She aptly named these earring the Goldie hoops, in honor or her new Daughter.

She looks forward to expanding her line to include home decor, textiles, and interior design.  Are you as inspired by her as I am?  Sarah Briggs has become my go to line for all my earrings!

After launching her line in 2004, Sarah Briggs quickly was sold worldwide!  She was in Museums throughout the country, W Hotels, Neiman Marcus, and even Henri Bendel.  Her designs even reached as fas as Singapore, Russia, Milan, Grand Cayman, and Dubai.

Members of the collection’s ever-growing celebrity following include Oprah, Kelly Pickler, Paris Hilton, Jessica Biel, Eva Longoria, Anne Heche, Jessica Simpson, Rihanna, Diane Keaton, Meredith Viera and Mellisa Rycroft. The line’s also been written about-slash-spotted in publications such as Elle, In Style, D Magazine, Modern Luxury, WWD, In Touch, Life & Style, Us Weekly, Brilliant, PaperCity, and DailyCandy.com.

Introducing my leather tassel earrings.  I love them, and I know you will too!

Eeekkk!!  I am so thrilled to collaborate with Sarah for these fabulous earring and offer the chance for one lucky follower to win a pair for themselves!  Please make sure to follow the instructions in the rafflecopter form to enter, and not just good luck this time..... but super good luck!!!!

Paris     Evolve     Be the Change      Hello       Love

Some times its not what you say but how you say it!  These graphics say it all!  I have always been a fan of graphic tee's, as long as they were tastful of course!  You're not going to catch me in a shirt that says profanity on it!

My favorites of course, would be the self motivating.  "Be the change you wish to see", and "Evolve" both speak to me.  If your a fan of graphics like me, then you should check out the new site Manifesto.  Every month Meg will be launching a new shirt with a different word. The shirts are limited edition, so when they are gone, there gone! The beauty to a limited edition is you don't look like every other "Pink" wearing gal on the street!  Sorry, but I had to say it.  Do you wear graphics? or are you a plain tee gal?

Nespresso

January 16, 2013

If you recognize these, then you know all to well what they go to.  These are pods.  and they go with this!

My sweet, sweet boys, gave me a Nespresso Citiz & Milk for christmas. and I love it!  I had my eye on this for a while, and I am so glad they remembered!   It was such a surprise to open this christmas morning.  The boys were excited as I was!!!  The machine comes with an assortment of 16 coffees for you to try out with your machine.  It is a nice way to sample before you invest in a sleeve of pods.   We samples the flavors, and carefully chose what were our favorites.  My machine also came with a Nespresso club credit of $100 so my first few orders are part of my gift as well! Woohoo!!

It is so simple to make.  This is the frother.  It will warm your milk, or froth your milk, depending on what you prefer.  You simply fill it with milk to the line, and press the button, and wait.  This takes approximately 60 seconds.

Then you insert a pod of the flavor of your choice.  Decide if you would rather have a shot of expresso, or a lungo, and then sweet goodness flows from the machine! Steaming hot aroma of pure goodness!

It is such a treat to wake up and make a fresh latte in my kitchen, and in the evenings? well, we are enjoying the decaf and a little extra added to it!!!  I prefer the amaretto with a little fresh whipped cream on top!

Yum!!!

If you are a coffee lover, you should definitely check out the entire line of Nespresso machine and add one to your kitchen.  It is wonderful!!  Remember when I posted about the challenge and I mentioned my machine and how it was helping out? If you didn't read it, you should check it out here

Oh, and all the pictures of my new machine I took with my new 50mm 1.4 lens I got from my parents for christmas!  Love it!

Wrap it Up

January 15, 2013
Cleavage cover, neck warmer, fashion statement, accessory....... whatever you use your scarves for, do it in style!  I have a serious crush on these!  Seriously?  This  beauty needs to get in my closet!

I have to admit, I wear scarves for all the reasons listed above.  Sometimes, it is about the coverage, other times, it's about the statement!  But whatever the reason, I always want it to pop in color.  These scarves do not disappoint!  So tell me,  which is your favorite?

52 weeks and a challenge

January 14, 2013

I came across a post on FB the other day my aunt had shared.  It was a money challenge.  Basically what you do is save the amount of money that matches the number of the week in the year.  Pretty simple it seems!  For example,  week one - you save $1, week 2 - $2, and so one. You balance begins to take off at and by the time the middle of the year rolls around and your putting in say $24, 25 or even 26 dollars for the week you are excited to see the savings grow and you have started a nice habit! For example, week 26 you save $26 dollars and your balance would be $351.  Pretty nice huh?

Now I don't think it is completly without flaws, as I think it would be a smidge difficult for some to put away $49, 50, 51, and 52 dollars the last weeks of the year as its holiday season!  But if you follow the chart and faithfully save, you will have $1,378 when the new year rolls around again!  When you stop and think about all the places you could be saving a few bucks thru out the week, or even on a monthly basis, it will be easy.  Maybe for some it is one less trip to starbucks.  For me it is cutting out starbucks pretty much all together.  My boys gave me a Nespresso for christmas so we can enjoy our lattes fresh and hot in my kitchen.  I will be sharing a post about this very soon!

If starbucks isn't your thing, then maybe its packing a lunch a couple of times a week.  That right there is an easy $7 savings each.  Where ever you have a corner to cut, I promise you will be glad you did a year from now when you are dreaming of all the things your savings can do for you!

I am up for the challenge and have started savings! I can't wait to watch my weekly bucks take off and grow!  So who wants to join me in this challenge?  Let me know if you start and we will save together!

The Measuring Stick

January 10, 2013
Life isn't fair!  how many times have we heard that or said it?  Too many to count I'm sure.  But truth be told, its more fair than we realize.  You see life is about how you  see it. Your perception is your reality.  There are so many bloggers that portray a grand life that it could really bring another blogger down.  I have seen it several times.  But let me stop you there.

What stick are you measuring yourself with?  Theirs?  Then you are selling yourself short.  You see, their stick isn't your life experiences, adventures, or even drama!  eeeekk such an ugly word!!!    You cannot compare yourself to their pictures of a happy go lucky, shop till they drop life.  They have bad days, they have bills, and they have heartache.  They just don't post it!

I am older than lots of bloggers, heck I even have kids older than some, and probably smack dab in the middle of another section of bloggers that I am unaware of that I don't have anything in common with!!  I see the outfit pics of the $700+ shoes, and the $3000 handbags, in mulitples mind you, and the endless stream of new articles of clothings they post on a weekly basis.  But at my age (I like to refer to it as wisdom thank you) I do not have blog envy, or outfit envy.  Oh sure, I would love to have a few of these lovelies, and one item is actually on my list to acquire, but to be envyous is selling my self short of what I DO have.  (Here is where the measuring stick comes in to play).

Breaking it down for you is simple.  Most of these girls have rent, not mortgages, they ride public transportation (due to no need for a car) and if they have an automobile, is it from college still?  Their total square footage of living space would fit in my great room and kitchen (maybe).  They may still be on their parents health insurance plan, and hardly none, if any have kids!!!!  Don't even get me started on that expense.  So are you beginning to see the measuring stick?  I feel blessed to be where am I today, and to have the experiences that I have gathered along the way.  I wouldn't be who I am without them, yes, even the bad ones!

In the end, its all about who you are as a person and what YOU bring to the table. Some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, or end.  Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing whats going to happen next..... Delicious ambiguity!!

I don't shop the latest every week, or even every month sometimes.  I shop from within my closet alot, and add a few new items to incorporate the latest trends, but never going broke.  An investment piece is just that, nothing to trendy or it is wasted money.  Next time you click open your favorite fashion bloggers post and she is dressed to the nines, go shop in your own closet and I bet you can duplicate the outfit style on a budget.  Pick up a few layering, or styling tips from what she did, and use her as a stylist rather than someone to be green of! I love to repurpose an item by seeing how someone else wore it differently!

Remember when I posted I was embracing 2013?  Well this is an embrace moment.  I did not write this for any particular reason other than it felt good to share with you.  I hear so many times of girls venting about others that have what appears to be such a grand life, and it breaks my heart that they don't see what is truly theirs in front of them. Wear this years color of green, don't be the color!  Feel free to leave any comments or questions.

The Driver

January 09, 2013
I know I have said it before, and I will say it again...... I love a good driver!  They are the most comfortable shoes to kick around in and with so many bright colors, its hard to have a favorite!  I love the hot pink and would sport it proudly, but I spotted an emerald green pair and can't help but wonder if those would be more fun this year!  What do you think? Pink or green?

Tan  Pink  Blue  Metallic  Rust  Orange  Black

Green

These are pretty cute! and I am ready to pull the trigger on a pair!

Emerald Green

January 08, 2013
Ahhh..... Green! Emerald Green to be exact.  When I first heard this was the color of the year I was excited!  Green, in the right shade of course, is so alive!  It is bold, yet cheery and approachable!  I will be adding alot of this color to my wardrobe this year, remember this post about blondes and green where I won a fabulous blouse?  Yup..... I'm ready for green!

Growing up

January 07, 2013
Happy Monday!  How was your weekend?  Mine was busy, busy!

I kept my grandson Friday night for a little sleep over with Mimi!  whew........ let me tell ya, I know why you have babies when your young!  That little stinker fights his sleep hard.  He fell asleep in his swing about 8 and I carried him to his crib to finish sleeping.  I thought he may wake up before bed time and I can feed him, or he may push on into the middle of the night. He woke up at 10:30 and I thought this was perfect.  I would change him, fed him and right back to sleep he will go until hopefully 4 or 5.

Haha........  He had other plans for me!  He coo'ed , laughed, and even babbled at me all the while I was silent.  I was hoping he would get the hint this was NOT play time!  I walked, rocked, swayed, you name it but he would have no part of being horizontal.  Mind you, the time is now midnight!  I laid him down several times for him to roll around, fuss, then full on cry, only to be scooped up again so as to not wake the rest of the house.  I carried him down to swing again confident that would work!  As I sat there at 1am watching him swing wide eyed, I remembered all the nights I sat up with my own babies.  Somewhat wishing they would be at the next stage or phase. I was lucky, all my boys were good sleepers, and always slept in their beds.  I think all parent wish for the next milestone though!

I was flooded with memories and feelings, and it was so warm.  So what I was going to be tired tomorrow, or that I might be up again in a few hours.  You see, it made me realize just how fast the time does go by.  I took my youngest son, (17 in March)  to get his permit Friday afternoon and that teared me up as I watched him sit and take the test, then proudly get up and receive his permit certificate.  He beemed as we walked to the car.  His car.  He will be driving by himself in March, and my baby is growing up.  I cannot turn back time, or stop the process of growing up.  But what I can do is treasure the moments as they come.

So you might be asking me about now how did I finally get little man to sleep at 1am?  I fixed him a bottle and topped off him tummy.  He drifted off to sleep in my arms, and I sat there holding him and watching him sleep, in no hurry to put him in bed.  That was a moment I will not get back and I wanted to hold it for a while!  Sleep will come for me when he is home!

A quote that hands on my office wall reads,

"I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I just lived the length of it.  I want to have lived the width of it as well"
Diane Ackerman

That is how I feel about 2013.  I will be living this year and embracing every moment!   What are your aspiring for the year? I would love for you to share.

DIY Planner Notepads

January 03, 2013
I originally shared this DIY last spring as a guest post on another blog, but with all the talk about goals, resolutions, and planning your new year out I thought it was fitting to share it with you. These are so fun to make and give! Enjoy!

I like to make list.  A list for errands, groceries, task,  you name it. I have an app on my iPad that allows me to create a shopping list, but sometimes an old fashion piece of paper is better in my opinion!   Sometimes if I complete a task or run an errand and it wasn't on my list I write it down only to cross it off!!  Signs of accomplishment!    So several years ago in the land of scrapbooking days, a friend of mine made me one of these.  I loved it and knew once it was used I would want to have a new one.  So I created a template and have made them several times.  I recommend making  several at a time sorta like an assembly line process.  Trust me, once your friends or family sees them they will want one as well!  With so many pretty papers out there it is hard to make just one!

Items needed
  • 5 x 7 notepads
  • Solid colorful scrapbook paper (Heavyweight)
  • Printed scrapbook paper
  • glue stick
  • papercutter
  • ruler
  • embellishments
  • Handmade stamp (optional)
To begin I like to measure and cut all my paper before assembly. Here are the measurements to the different sizes of papers.

  • Background and flap     8 x 10 3/4
  • bottom colorful paper  4 3/4 x 5 1/2
  • top coordinating strip   1 3/4 x 4 3/4
  • middle section strip      3/4 x 4/ 3/4
  • decorative rectangle     2 x 3

Score the background paper along the fold line of the flap 3 1/2 inches in from the edge and the edge to wrap around the pad. (Lower photo)  Glue the bottom edge of the flap in place.  Then glue the back edge to the back of the pad. Only place glue on the bottom inch of the inside flap to create a envelope fold.

I use a piece of cardboard to adhere the glue to my edges making sure I cover all corners of the paper.

Next take your top strip of paper and glue this down and continue with the larger section of the background.    Continue with the decorative middle strip.

I prefer to let this entire process set for a while until I adhere the decorative rectangle.  Usually after I have completed the entire set of pads I will go back and do this step.

Once everything is glued down you may decorate the rectangles or middle strip any way you desire.  I use stamps, decorative shapes from the cricket cutter, and/or pearl or rhinestone embellishments. I haven't glues these down as of yet.  I can't decide if I like them with or without the rectangles.   The last piece of paper I glue on is the strip on the inside header of the note pad to coordinate, but this is optional.

I stamp the lower center back of the pad with a handmade for you sticker and give them to all my friends and family.  They love them.
